Why the Java mod doesn't run on Bedrock, what the separate Bedrock version is, and what to watch out for.

Tinkers Construct Bedrock is one of the most searched questions about the mod. The answer depends on what you mean by "Tinkers": the Java mod itself, or something built for Bedrock.

The short answer

The Tinkers' Construct mod from SlimeKnights is a Java Edition mod. The .jar file in our download section will not install or run on Bedrock Edition — on phones, consoles or the Windows Bedrock app.

Why Java mods don't run on Bedrock

Java Edition and Bedrock Edition are separate games with different code. Java mods run through loaders like Forge and NeoForge that hook into the Java game. Bedrock uses its own add-on and Marketplace system, so a Java mod cannot simply be copied over.

The Bedrock version

According to the SlimeKnights FAQ, a Bedrock version of Tinkers' Construct is made by Feed the Beast, with permission from the mod's original author mDiyo. SlimeKnights is not involved beyond granting the name and ideas. Questions about it go to Feed the Beast's own community, not to the Java mod's team.

What is different

The FAQ notes that Bedrock gameplay does not match the Java mod. Expect different recipes, stations and features, and do not rely on Java guides — including ours — for Bedrock details. Our smeltery and modifiers guides are written for the Java mod.

Staying safe with add-ons

  • Get Bedrock content from the in-game Marketplace or the creator's own page.
  • Be careful with sites that repackage "Tinkers" add-ons; check who made the file.
  • Never run executable installers that claim to add Java mods to Bedrock.
  • Back up your Bedrock worlds before adding new add-ons.
